Mrs. Barbara Adams
Mrs. Adams is in her twelveth year at the helm of the Washington Elementary School. Prior to becoming principal, she had served as an Assistant Principal in charge of the Middle School in Highland Park, NJ, Supervisor of the Summer Science/Adult School program in Caldwell-West Caldwell, Gifted and Talented Teacher, and as a 4th and 5th grade teacher for eleven years.
She truly enjoys the feeling of close knit community that personifies Washington School. Years before they attend Washington School, students' younger siblings attend the school's many events along with grandparents, extended family, and even pets in tow!
Her favorite administrative activities include listening to children read, helping students solve their interpersonal problems, investigating new technology applications with teachers and enjoying the delight of students discovering how to use numbers effectively. When she’s not in school, Mrs. Adams enjoys reading, modern dance, gardening, cooking, and long walks.
Mrs. Adams has a B.A. in Elementary Education and English from William Paterson University and an M.A. in Educational Administration from William Paterson University.
Dear Parents/Guardians, Welcome to Washington School! You will find it to a be a large school, but a close knit one, embodying the spirit of a community school where all students, staff, and family work collaboratively to ensure student success, achievement, support, and fun! All 360 or so of our students spend their days actively involved in learning activities which focus on the New Jersey State Core Curriculum Standards as well as our own district curricula, while coming to understand that learning is an ongoing, lifelong, FUN activity. Here, parents works closely with educators to ensure that our home and school partnership provides our children with all the ingredients for optimal growth. We concern ourselves with math and writing, reading and science, social studies and world languages, and also with health and nutrition, music and art, physical fitness and responsible, caring behavior. We are proud of our children , their families, our staff and our school community, and hope that our website communicates that fact!
